This is the Charcuterie Board: the best of the local market on one board, set in about twenty minutes before the guests arrive, and enjoyed at whatever hour they sit down.
The evening
The guests check in, set their bags down, and find the dining table already laid. A long acacia board runs down the middle of it: two cheeses and a summer sausage in their own wraps, three small dishes of honey, fig jam and glazed nuts, and crackers fanned out on the rounded wings.
Nothing to shop for, nothing to cook. They pull out the chairs and stay a while.
